Norton’s Diary at a Glance Wednesday 11 February 2009 - Village Hall Meeting All welcome 2009 Calendar of Events for you to note in your diaries:
Donations in Lieu of sending Christmas Cards Thanks to those families that contributed and raised £40 for the County Air Ambulance Trust Christmas Village Golf Day A great day out was had by all players on the annual village Golf Day, which was held at the Belfry and as a bonus the day raised an extra £100 for funds. If you are a keen golfer there is another day held in the summer if the warmer weather appeals to you, keep your eye on the website and newsletter for more details. A Special Thank You... to the volunteers for installing and setting up the stage lighting system at the village hall (generously funded by villagers at the 2007 New Year Party) and most especially to Richard Mills for all his time and effort. New Year Party Santas Winter Wonderland A great time was had by all revellers once again. We celebrated the ringing in of 2009 in style with friends both old and new and anticipate next Year’s Event being a sell out once again! Thanks must go to ‘Dave Jake’ who entertains us and really gets the party under way…..we really couldn’t create the atmosphere without the live entertainment that Dave’s performance brings us. In addition, due to everyone’s generosity, we raised an extra £250 for the Air Ambulance and £140 for Birmingham Childrens Hospital. WE NEED YOU! The Village Institute is not just about raising money for the village hall although it could not survive on its hiring income alone. We endeavour to provide a range of community events and activities to include and appeal to as many people as possible and these are extremely well supported. However, due to ever changing personal commitments of the few stalwarts who organise these (i.e. new jobs, sickness, growing families etc) it is becoming increasingly harder for us to juggle the home/work/village/life balance. It would be a great shame if we had to reduce, or even cancel, the number of events we offer because of this and consequently we need more volunteers. We know that not everyone wants to join a committee and attend a monthly meeting, and we are not expecting you to take on the role of Chair; Vice Chair; Secretary or Treasurer, not unless this is something you would like to do, but we all do have skills and talents. If we can just break down some of the event organisation into smaller, bite size chunks and share the load, it will make things so much easier for the existing few. Examples of some of the practical things we need help with are: - cutting out fabric and hemming to make tablecloths; designing and/or printing tickets and posters; setting out tables and chairs; blowing up balloons and decorating the hall; shopping and preparing food; operating the stage lighting panel; help with the website; and the list goes on. Even if you can not come to an event or it is not your sort of thing, we always welcome helping hands to set up and clear away. So please - help to share the workload in whatever small way you can - it is great fun and a way of getting to know new people too. Helen (880277) or Melanie (881007) will be delighted to hear from you.
